Carburn Bald Eagles Update January 10, 2026

The Park was bustling with activity this morning!  Between the Bald Eagles building their nests, to the Trumpeter Swans continuously trumpeting while flying about, to the Bucks chasing the Does, to the Muskrats feeding on vegetation, to the many birders who came looking to spot the one and only Glaucous Gull that has been hanging out in the area which is an unusual thing, there was never a dull moment.

It was the two Bald Eagles bustling about that captured most of my attention.  Did you notice I said they were building their nests, yes nests, plural!  I chatted with others about why would they be building two nests almost side by side.  This is new to me but I guess constructing two for various reasons is a common thing.

One Bald Eagle flew to my side of the river numerous times to collect branches to bring to a nest.

    1. They start building them in November! At one point the Eagle was right over my head but I had to wait a few seconds to get the right angle to snap the shot.

  6. Watching the eagles building their nests would be a great sight to observe. Such large sticks they can carry.

    1. To see them maneuver with those large sticks through all the branches on the tree near the nest is something to see!

  7. I would have never thought they could carry such eavy sticks.

    1. I think they could probably carry even heavier ones! They are even strong enough to break the branches off the tree.

  8. Thank you for your great photos, Alexandra.
There must be enough fish and waterfowl around for two nests to thrive side by side.
