I am only on page 40 of my new 220 page book called “Birding for Boomers”. I can resonate already with lots of what is written. I like the illustrations just as much as the stories. Today was Beacon Hill Park day, time to focus on birding and that’s it. The Park is mainly woods. I do most of all my birding in woods so I cannot say it is the worst, I enjoy being in the woods to begin with.
After a hop, skip and a jump from my home away from home, I arrived at the entrance!
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Spotted Towhee
Greater White-fronted Goose
Anna’s Hummingbird
Dark-eyed Junco
Peacock
Brown Creeper
Bushtit
Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Pacific Great Blue Heron
the turtles and two ducks basking in the sunshine
a squirrel taking a sip of water
I can only imagine how busy Beacon Hill Park will get over the next month or so as more and more species arrive for the summer and then the babies begin to be born. Today it was busy with birders, all looking to be just as enthralled as I was.
Sensory overload.

DeleteThat's good number of species to see. Get an app that identifies bird sounds. you may not see the bird but you will know it's there.
ReplyDeleteI do have the Merlin app that identifies the sounds and use it often when birding here but I did not use it while at Beacon Hill Park. I did use it while hiking the rainforest to ID a bird I heard, it was a Pacific Wren.
DeleteAlexandra, Excellent lot of bird photos. You won’t be surprised … my favorite is the hummer … but, wow, what a beauty that Peacock is! Now, those last two images of trees … would love to see you create drawings! Really neat captures! Thanks, as always, for sharing! John
ReplyDeleteI did think of you when I saw the Hummingbirds! I saw some every day, near every place I went! I like how the red shows when the sun catches it. OMG I had to go back and look at what trees you were talking about, where would I even begin to paint a scene like that!
DeleteI have spent many happy hours at Beacon Hill Park. When I was last there (September) last year we stayed at a great place right on the edge of the park and we only had to cross the street for an early morning walk. Great birding!
ReplyDeleteI noticed what looked like nice places to stay across the street! I enjoy very early morning birding!
