Victoria, British Columbia April 8, 2025

With a few morning hours of blue sky and sunshine forecasted, I aimed for the Songhees Walkway to do a leisurely out and back.  My hope was to see some cherry blossoms along the way while mostly enjoying being by water. The morning hours bring the calm waters and the busy birds. My home away from home is a block from the harbour so getting to the water happens in a minute.

If I was a serious cherry blossom chaser, I could break out the map of Victoria that shows where they are located and their degree of being in bloom.  While I am serious, I am content with coming upon them by chance and surprise.

My deep focus on the still of the morning was interrupted by a multitude of birds songs which were a wonderful welcome!  Time now to multitask!  Birds!  Cherry blossoms! Ocean vistas!

Back from my out and back, I quickly spruced up a bit then headed back out.
This was the view while on my way to “Afternoon Tea”.

location for “Afternoon Tea”

I opted for the “Traditional” version and paired that with Mystique Blend tea. This tea with lemongrass and peppermint spoke the loudest to me from the three pages of teas to choose from. Five savouries, two scones and four pastries was more than enough food. I boxed up three pastries to go.

Before heading back to my home away from home, I strolled the streets, many streets but the first street was the one where Monroe’s Books is.  Talk about things speaking loudly to me , this book did!

Eventually I made it back to my suite and was fine with settling in for the evening.

  1. One of my wife's sisters lives in Victoria so we have visited several times. It's great to be able to combine birding with a family visit. My favourite spot is Clover Point and I make a point to go there every morning before I set off for other destinations. The bird life is quite fabulous and changes each day, it seems. I have also seen River Otters there. Give it a try if you get a chance. Enjoy the rest of your stay in BC's charming capital.

  5. Alexandra, Neat photos in Victoria! The TEA ROOM … isn’t that the famous tea room? If so, I’ve had tea there … probably about 5 years ago while there on a cruise stop. Doesn’t that tea room have a great garden to walk around after enjoying tea? 😊 I’ve got to say … you do travel right! Thanks, as always, for sharing. John

    1. It's the Pendray Tea Room! The garden outside is beautiful as are the little ponds and water fountains.
