After the hustle & bustle of the festive season at Lake Louise came to an end, it was now time for me to enjoy the delights! The delights began with a smooth sailing two hour drive west on a clear dry summer-like highway with very little traffic. I had an itinerary in place for once I arrived, with a skating session at the Lake Louise Sport and Recreation Centre being the first up.

Next on my itinerary was to have lunch at The Station Restaurant! This past March Adventure Designer and I had dinner there which was scrumptious, I knew lunch would be delicious too. I ordered the Chef’s Special of the Day which was a flank steak sandwich with a side choice, (I picked the house salad) plus strawberry rhubarb pie for desert.
Spending time up at Lake Louise came next on the itinerary. It was lovely to be here on a quiet beautiful afternoon. People were skating, others were just hanging out like me and the horses were pulling sleighs. The Ice Bar was open and the plan was to enter in and order an adult beverage. I did last January and it was a splurge at $18cdn for a few sips, it was the experience I wanted and it was a delight. I saw no delight this time at the posted price of $27cdn for a few sips! Today I found much delight in the surrounding sights!
I watched employees dismantle the Ice Castle which collapsed into the Lake on December 27th. It lasted ten days. With the warm temperatures, the weight of the Ice Castle could not be supported on Lake Louise. It has never collapsed into the Lake before. With many days straight of cold temperatures, it was now safe for employees to enter the area. Last winter due to warm temperatures the Ice Castle began to melt and pieces fall off, it was dismantled on January 29th along with the Ice Sculpture Festival cancelled. I wonder will they rebuild the Castle this winter or will they rethink what the future holds for there being an Ice Castle on Lake Louise for winters to come.
The last item on today’s itinerary was to bundle up and
savour a glass of wine on the balcony while watching the sun set.
Enjoy your time in this little piece of heaven! That was quite the price hike for a bevie…don’t blame you for passing. 😳

DeleteI've visited the Ice Castle on Lake Louise just once, several years ago, and loved it. $27 is a steep price for a drink!
