A cotton candy sky greeted me as I arrive just after sunrise to skate on Lake Louise. The ice was being flooded, I could hardly wait to get gliding away. There was no wind so windchill yet it was a cold start which was perfect. The longer it stays cold, the better the ice will be.
As I began to skate I noticed a guy with gear heading towards the Ice Castle then entering inside the closed off area. I was curious! I called out to him and he came to the rope for a chat. They are rebuilding the Ice Castle! That was such great news!
The plan was to skate for about five kilometres but when all was said and done, ten kilometres was written. The conditions, both weather and ice, were ideal and it was a challenge to drag myself away. Eventually I did!
The “Ice Castle” people working their magic!
As if I needed to stretch my legs after skating, I did anyway by walking the west end of the Bow River Loop. The snow pack is very low but it still looked like a winter-wonderland. The path beside tbe X-C Ski trail was packed which made for easy walking. No spikes were needed. I look forward to being in the ski track! The views while skating and walking both offered up a feast and I was now full, it was time to retreat to my suite!
