While there are many lovely ponds in Kananaskis, there is one that I like more-so than the others. It stands out to me for many reasons, the location, the drive to it, the scenery, the picnic spots and there are fire pits. My friend had never been to Forgetmenot Pond and she was game to give it a go. We arrived mid to later morning to see no one else was there. Ah the luxury of week day get-aways! This is the view we arrived to!
Before setting up our picnic site, we strolled around the Pond. The shaded spots still sported snow. Some ice was beginning to form along the edges in sections. I could hear birds singing and spotted a couple of small ones. They were too busy bustling about to capture a photo. We picked our spot, which is my favourite one. After making a couple of trips to and from the car transporting all our gear for the day, it was time to get the water boiling.
a curious visitor
While waiting for the water to boil, we got a fire rip roaring!
This is the life!
A few other people showed up. There were those just strolling about, others were photographers and there were a few artists who settled in for awhile to render the beautiful view. Even though the sun shone down on us, we needed our layers and wool blankets while passing hours chatting about everything and anything. Every now and then we put another log on the fire, boiled more water and carried on with our conversation. In between, we dined, snapped shots and for a few seconds here there we savoured the silence. As the late afternoon hours slowly worked their way along, we were ready to work our way along. We packed up our gear, took some time to get that fire fully out, did the reverse to and from the car transporting everything back to it, then said....
.....so long for now Forgetmenot Pond! You afforded us a memorable day!
My idea of another form of total bliss!
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to share this bliss with my long time friend who is nicely settling into retirement!
