Peggy’s Cove, Halifax, Nova Scotia

My kind of tour!  Hotel pick up, just me and one other tourist, 45 minute drive, drop us off, leave us for 2.5 hours, pick us up, 45 minute drive, hotel drop off.  That was the day’s itinerary for a visit to Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse and Village. Fog was in the forecast for the morning and it was due to lift near noon.  That’s exactly what transpired!

For the first half hour or so, the other tourist and I shared the time capturing our photos for each other, then we went about exploring on our own.  With the dense fog, there was not much colour other than a few wildflowers here and there that popped brightly and the glow from the red light in the lighthouse.

It was high tide for the early portion of the visit. The waves were crashing somewhat, but not near to the extent of how crazy they can crash.  I spoke with the security guard who monitors the edge of the rocky shore advising people where they can not go.  Many tourists aim for the black rocks that meet the water. Her voice was almost gone from the day prior when so many people were out of control and she had to control them. The black rocks are slippery and roque waves are common.  Those of us who know the waters need no control from the guard.

How fortunate for us, the bag piper came and played for a short while.  I sat on one of those colourful chairs, high up on a rock that offered a great view,

While I was just sitting and taking it all in, the fog lifted and the sky cheered up.

  1. What a cute lighthouse! How fortunate for you that the fog finally lifted and the bagpiper happened by.

  2. I love Peggy's Cove. It was also foggy on our arrival, but lifted. [2014]
