Spain April 19 - May 11, 2022 Blanes

Blanes is located 60 kms north of Barcelona and is where the Costa Brava starts and the Camino de Ronda begins.  It is known for its beaches, secluded coves and the mountains near by.  Our visit there today was for none of those reasons but to visit the botanical gardens that sit high on a hill overlooking Blanes and the sea.  This was my first time riding a train system in Europe and I was happy to share the ride with four experienced friends.  We hired a cab to transport us from the train station to the gardens once we arrived in Blanes.
There was much to see at these gardens and I will let the photos tell the story.

I saw a rainbow tree like this in Maui.
almost at the highest point at the gardens looking down onto the Mediterranean Sea

there were many cobblestone walkways and staircases

we could see lots of snorkelers and scuba divers

I made a wish!  See my splash?

We spent close to two hours at the botanical gardens.  We opted to get the cab driver back to take us to the train.  This is a view from the cab looking down onto Blanes, the boat docks and beaches.  The train station for Blanes is inland from the sea, not like the other train stops at villages along the way.  It was on this day when the heat went high and remained that way for the balance of the trip.  Mid to high 20's is unusual for this area for this time of year.

It was a quick train ride back to Calella.  Once we arrived, we strolled the promenade to a beach side cafe where we savoured beer and Sangria, some of those spicy potatoes and a toastie (toasted cheese sandwich).  We lingered long here, very long and then it was time to head back to our home away from home to get ready for happy hour!
